“An admirable role model for corporate representatives worldwide.”

- Cassie Heppenstall

Mothman is a West Virginia cryptid and Director of Area Growth for Clawsco. He is known for being a worker of integrity in his role at an otherwise faceless, large corporate entity, and for his active support of his local West Virginia community.

Mothman is a key person in Clawsco’s vanguard against the rising of Cthulhu to drive humanity into madness.

Early Life

Mothman was born in Hawaii, but his family moved to West Virginia when he was 11 years old. He was teased in public school for his extensive vocabulary, and for being the tallest 4th grader at 5’11”. As a result, his parents pulled him out of school after 2 weeks and his grandmother homeschooled him all the way up until he passed his GED. He spent much of his youth alone in the woods, and became a local cryptid for his tendency to avoid the public eye.

Worried about his solitary tendencies, his grandmother enrolled him in a free dance class at the YLCA. Mothman says it was through these classes he “nurtured both credence in regards to my individuality, as well as a mean foxtrot.” The experience also bolstered his belief in local community involvement. He has been a volunteer in various capacities at the YLCA ever since.

Employment at Clawsco

Mothman became a grocery bagger at a local Clawsco to help support his parents and grandmother. He worked hard and eventually was promoted to store manager. He recalls being take into a back room and shown “depths to store procedures hitherto undisclosed to me as a lower level employee” — namely that Clawsco was in a battle against the awakening of Cthulhu. Costco had unintentionally built storefronts upon ley lines. Clawsco constructed their own storefronts in key locations to restore balance to Earth’s energies, keeping Cthulhu from sensing the disturbances and awakening [see Clawsco main article].

Mothman was promoted to Director of Area Growth, and now flies around the United States to consult at locations struggling either to earn revenue, or to preserve Cthulhu’s slumber.

Lizard Apocalypse

Mothman began to live publicly in the world with the onset of the Lizard Apocalypse, like most other non-humans. He did not directly fight for either side during the Lizard Wars, but remained at Clawsco to play his part in keeping Cthulhu asleep.

The Lizard King attempted to awaken Cthulhu during his reign by ordering the demolition of certain significant Clawsco Superstore locations. Mothman convinced him to leave the stores intact as they were “a touchstone of the salubrious economy you purportedly brace.” This argument was in line with the Lizard King’s claims to be for the promotion of non-humans above men. The Lizard King reluctantly said he would find another way to awaken Cthulhu, but he never did.

Favorite Passtimes

Mothman is an avid fan of movies. He frequents thrift shops and yard sales in search of movies, and has a large collection of LaserDiscs since the format’s popularity resurgence during the Lizard Apocalypse. He hosts free movie showings, projecting films on the side of his Clawsco home store in West Virginia. He is “never stingy in loaning out a movie to a buddy,” according to his friend, the goddess Ishtar.

Mothman’s favorite movie is Miracle. Al Michaels’ famous real-life and film quote, “Do you believe in miracles? Yes!” is printed on a motivational poster in Mothman’s office at Clawsco.

Mothman has consistently supported the lowest ranked carapace team, the Washington, D.C. Lacertoidea, through many losses.

Mothman is also an excellent Xebec player.
